Sumitra Nanjundan was a former professor
of Jazz Studies at the Gustav Mahler Conservatory of Music in Vienna, Austria.
Born in New York, raised in Austria and educated
in England, her international classical and jazz music studies include being an alumnus of the Vienna Music Academy with renowned
artist Maria Alsatti (Professor of Voice, The Performing Arts Studios Vienna, Austria.)
An accomplished instructor of children and
adults of classical and jazz piano for over 15 years, Sumitra also celebrates a successful recording, touring and performing
career as a solo artist. Her diverse musical and cultural background have enabled her to understand the need for flexibility in
teaching. For her it is always important to meet the needs of the individual and keep the student motivated.
As she details her teaching philosophy, we
are clearly fortunate to have her as a member of the faculty, "Learning music should be fun and rewarding. I try to make
the journey to approach the student, picking them up at whatever level they are, and walking down whichever road they need
to take to get to where they want to be."
